Still, it has at least apparently led to a new TV show. Hope that's good!

And on the subject of JJ, I've never been a fan of his, I've not even watched that much of his stuff, but I think he gets a bit of a tough rap - it's not like he's the only one responsible for the new Treks, or indeed the new Star Wars. Films like Super 8 show he can do more than just flashy action.RetroKingSimonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05609689348601442117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455082771543433548.post-34396504636437154892016-01-20T17:03:06.801+00:002016-01-20T17:03:06.801+00:00Fair enough. But when you start looking back with nostalgia at the subtlety of William Shatner's performance there's got to be something wrong... :-) The guy who plays Kirk now is such a knuckle head. Kirk was never an outright moron.John Blackburnhttps://sites.google.com/site/simpleinteractive1/news/reviewstarwarstheforceawakensnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455082771543433548.post-69069725705497489902016-01-20T16:55:23.850+00:002016-01-20T16:55:23.850+00:00I've had these kinds of discussions many times...I've had these kinds of discussions many times on various Star Trek groups and stuff so I know you're definitely not on your own in feeling like that. As I've said (even in my review on this very blog, in fact), the new films are basically action films set in the Star Trek universe. I'd definitely agree with that. But as I've also said, THIS new Trek is better then NO new Trek, in my opinion at least. What I'd really like to see is a new TNG/DS9/Voyager style show, perhaps even with some of the characters from those shows. I doubt it will happen though, so 'JJ Trek' will have to do for now.

P.S. does your last sentence mean you've not even watched The Force Awakens? :|RetroKingSimonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05609689348601442117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455082771543433548.post-33658702752684158152016-01-20T16:29:44.948+00:002016-01-20T16:29:44.948+00:00"I've seen an incredible amount of vitrio..."I've seen an incredible amount of vitriol aimed towards so-called 'JJ Trek' in recent years " LOL, a lot of that vitriol came from me ;-) JJ doesn't get Star Wars and he doesn't get Star Trek. He ruined both franchises IMO. Eg in the last one Spock was shown indulging in extreme brutal violence. Spock is not violent, this is an insult to the character for a cheap thrill. I'm not planning to watch anything he directs from now on. Hopefully he is not involved in Rogue One...John Blackburnhttps://sites.google.com/site/simpleinteractive1/news/reviewstarwarstheforceawakensnoreply@blogger.com
