Like Voyager improving when Seven turned up, DS9 improves when Sisko shaves his head :PRetroKingSimonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05609689348601442117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455082771543433548.post-46872235306587987822015-10-28T21:04:45.351+00:002015-10-28T21:04:45.351+00:00I'd forgotten about a lot of these episodes. Just watch the Jem'Hadar eps, then you'll think it's the best franchise yet! :DLukey Firebeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08048168897735233897noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455082771543433548.post-77282681985147406062015-10-27T19:13:03.719+00:002015-10-27T19:13:03.719+00:00Haha, yeah, I've heard about that. Wonder what caused her downfall?

As you might've noticed, I did Round-Ups of all seasons of TNG a while back and am now going through Voyager. I've finished watching the show, I just need to catch up with my posts. But since finishing it I've started DS9 again and... it seems much worse than I remember, particularly the standard of the acting which in some cases is awful (Kira and Bashir have both made me cringe in early episodes).

Voyager is actually my favourite show as far as the characters are concerned. Only a few (like Chakotay) aren't very interesting but most are in my opinion, and the sense of 'family' they created is great. I agree that Janeway's behaviour is often ridiculous but it still results in some great episodes (like Scorpion, above).

It's strange that most Trek actors haven't previously done or gone on to do much else in terms of acting. There are obviously some exceptions but for the most part...RetroKingSimonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05609689348601442117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455082771543433548.post-6738540673426932882015-10-27T18:47:58.744+00:002015-10-27T18:47:58.744+00:00Put simply, the writing was inconsistent, the capt...Put simply, the writing was inconsistent, the captain was stupidly reckless, and the cast was largely uninteresting. It was a big, big letdown after Deep Space Nine, which was my personal favorite of the five Star Trek series. I get that some people enjoy it, and I would agree that it improved after Ryan came onboard. However, whenever I think of Voyager, the first thing that pops into mind is Janeway pointlessly endangering the crew despite their protests. "A dormant combat robot? What could possibly go wrong? Fire 'em up!"

Anyway... Garrett Wang often showed up late to tapings and didn't take his work all that seriously, which led to him nearly getting fired. It's telling that he hasn't done much work since, but his career hasn't tanked nearly as badly as the woman who played Kes. Yikes...ArugulaZhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02099674283071076123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455082771543433548.post-42803878897870151352015-10-27T09:42:50.540+00:002015-10-27T09:42:50.540+00:00You resent Voyager? :( Why's that? I would've missed him, I like his friendship with Tom. I think that's one of the things I like most about Voyager - the relationships between the crew members. Even the 'colder' characters like Tuvok and Seven.

I was certainly glad to see Jeri Ryan join the show. Besides being a treat for the eyes, her character allows for some superb storylines. I know what you mean about pandering but it was great anyway!RetroKingSimonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05609689348601442117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455082771543433548.post-3774313587177058682015-10-27T00:15:30.886+00:002015-10-27T00:15:30.886+00:00Word on the street is that they were going to fire...Word on the street is that they were going to fire Garrett Wang... until he appeared in People magazine's "Most beautiful people of the year" issue. They decided at the last minute to scrap Kes instead. You're right though... as much as I resent Voyager, and as much fun as it is to make fun of Jeri Ryan's boobies, she played one of the more compelling characters in the show.

(I would also say that adding a Borg to the cast was pandering of an entirely different kind, buuuut DS9 kind of did the same thing when it added Worf to its own cast. So I'll just shut up now. Heh.)ArugulaZhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02099674283071076123noreply@blogger.com
