As some of you may have seen, about a month ago I posted the first part of my selection of my favourite Spectrum loading screens. Actually, I imagine rather a lot of you saw it as it turned out to be my most popular post for some time! I suppose visually-stimulating posts are always popular but, whatever the reason, I'm very pleased to now present the second part of the extensive gallery...
I suddenly want to boot up my speccy emulator!
ReplyDeleteYeay! There's nothing like seeing some lovely Speccy graphics to get the nostalgia juices pumping :P
ReplyDeleteSome wonderful memories here. I remember Go Bear Go, based on Sinclair User's teddy bear mascot and released on their covertape. I think they made another game based on him too, a kind of Space Harrier clone. Dizzy down the rapids also looks great, though frankly the game was no great shakes.
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the few Dizzy game I never played actually. I'll get there eventually though! I remember liking Go Bear Go a lot but I can't remember much about the actual game now. I guess I need to check it out... :P
ReplyDeleteYou had to throw crates at baddies to squash them. Wait a minute, what game does that remind me of... ;-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a load of games to me, probably starting with Pengo :) I remember one of YS's games being a Sokoban rip-off, I guess it must be that Go Bear Go. I'll still give it a go to check though :)
ReplyDeleteOh, you Brits and your color-deprived Spectrum!
ReplyDeleteHey, the Speccy is awesome! :) Those of us that grew up with them had a lot of affection for them, their technical limitations were part of the charm :P
ReplyDeleteYou can't beat some GameOver!
ReplyDeleteI always loved the Driller screen, would be bored to tears by the game as a kid to be honest, but would keep firing it up until I had scrounged 1.99 together to buy crap like Fantastic Soccer or something!
Haha, yeah, that Game Over advert is a million times more famous than the actual game, huh? Apparently it's rather poor but I never played it.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't like Driller? I suppose it is somewhat sedate but I really liked it, on the Speccy first, then later on my Amiga too. Never did finish it though :|
I had it on the C64 and never came close to finishing it either! I was just lusting after more fast paced action I guess. the only 'slow' games I could tolerate were text adventures
DeleteHaha, good old text adventures :P I never tried playing any of them properly, I just used to mess around. Maybe I should revisit some for a feature :)
ReplyDeleteIf you want a text adventure Rigel's Revenge on the Speccy is AWESOME.
ReplyDelete(btw the game I was thinking of was my own one, Nebula Retro -- makes me realise where I got the idea from ... ;-))
Haha, oh yeah :P
ReplyDeleteIt's funny you mention Rigel's Revenge - a good friend and I both had it for our computers (Speccy for me, CPC for him) and both of us hated it :P
I humbly suggest you try it again -- then admit you were wrong! ;-)
